Antón Reixa: “Dance has helped me better understand my body and my poetry”

Antón Reixa is a born creator. He has been proving it throughout his life by working across many fields, from poetry to cinema, including literature, screenwriting, and television series. But no one expected that, at the age of 68, Reixa would dare to take on contemporary dance. And yet, he has. He was persuaded by Cuban dancer and choreographer Kirenia Martínez, director of the performance Cicatriz, based on a poetry collection by Antón Reixa himself. With a 65% physical disability, the musician from Vigo challenges the limitations of his own body. To do so, he has had to train intensely: more than four months of physical training, along with watching videos to better understand contemporary dance.

This production by the Galician Choreographic Center has already toured Germany and will also travel to Argentina later this year. This Friday it arrives in Vigo, at the Municipal Auditorium, where Reixa recalls taking his first artistic steps with Rompente 50 years ago. Cicatriz speaks about the desire to desire and also addresses issues related to inclusion and ageism. Another challenge overcome by Antón Reixa. Just hours before performing in his hometown, he visited the studios of Radio Vigo.
