Course "Design of Performing Arts Programs in Galicia"

Every Tuesday, from April 9 to May 21, those working in the Performing Arts sector, especially in programming roles, have the opportunity to participate in a course promoted by the Xunta de Galicia through the Galician Agency of Cultural Industries in collaboration with the Galician Association of Cultural Management Professionals (AGPXC). The course, "Design of Performing Arts Programs," will be spread across seven sessions featuring twenty-three leading educators in this field in Galicia, offering a comprehensive content proposal. The course aims to improve professional knowledge, equip programmers with resources for designing Performing Arts programs, encourage new models that embrace the current diversity of offerings, foster enriching relationships among all agents in this field, and promote the connection between Performing Arts and audiences. Registration is free through the website xestoresculturais.gal until April 1.

"We've observed in workshops, meetings, and sector conferences a lack of knowledge and resources among programming professionals that would allow them to effectively develop performance programs in Galicia. The knowledge and skills they acquire in this field are often due to practical experience. The programming community itself acknowledges this gap and the need for training to design quality programs and improve the Performing Arts offerings for their audiences," explains Carlos Lorenzo, president of the Galician Association of Cultural Management Professionals (AGPXC), responsible for the technical coordination and direction of the course. Lorenzo and Jacobo Sutil, director of Agadic, will participate in the official opening of the course on April 9 at the Xosé Neira Vilas Auditorium in the City of Culture of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela.

The "Design of Performing Arts Programs in Galicia" course combines in-person sessions at the City of Culture of Galicia with online sessions, totaling forty-two hours. The content covers a wide range of topics and resources: from programming strategies, production and funding models, regulatory aspects, and an introduction to technical materials for performances, to the history of Performing Arts in Galicia, their socio-cultural impact, the role of awards and criticism, and the specifics of children's theater. This training offer covers theater, dance and movement arts, and circus, and is aimed at Performing Arts programmers in municipalities, festivals, venues, etc., but also, as emphasized by the organizers, at companies and artists, distributors, Cultural Management professionals, and students of the Galician School of Dramatic Arts (ESAD) or the Degree in Cultural Management at USC's Lugo campus.

The twenty-three educators in the course are leading professionals in various sectors: artistic, management and programming, authorship and direction, research and teaching, technical production and management, etc. Marta Alonso, Afonso Becerra, Carmen Castro, Santiago Cortegoso, Nacho Fungueiriño, Manuel Guede, Gonçalo Guerreiro, Patricia Hermida, Inma López Silva, Carlos Lorenzo, Kirenia Martínez, Diego Meizoso, Fefa Noia, Fran Núñez, Belén Pichel, Pilar Portela, Paula Quintas, Fran Rei, Paulo Rodríguez, Miguel Soto, María Torres, Artur Trillo, and Manuel Vieites will lead the seven sessions of the course.
