FIBA 2026: Buenos Aires once again becomes the stage for an international celebration of the arts
Buenos Aires, 31 August (NA) — The city will once again become the setting for a major celebration of the performing arts with a new edition of the Buenos Aires International Festival (FIBA), which will take place from 9 to 20 September and bring together national and international productions at different venues across the city.
The FIBA 2026 programme includes projects from Argentina and countries such as Spain, France, Brazil, Chile, Belgium, South Korea, Ecuador, Colombia, Switzerland, Bolivia and Lithuania, with proposals spanning theatre, dance and different contemporary forms of expression. The selection combines previously premiered works with projects involving local production and international exchange.
International titles include Cicatriz, from Spain; Contre-nature, from France; Dorian, from Lithuania; EDSON, from Brazil; Except That You Cannot See Me, Vol. 2, from South Korea; Monica, a co-production between Belgium and Spain; Vania, from Chile; and La trocha, a production by Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina. The programme also includes Encantado, by the Brazilian company directed by Lia Rodrigues, and NO/MAS/SACRE, from Spain and Brazil.
Argentine participation plays a central role in this edition. Selected works include ¡Oh cabezas locas de las religiosas!, by Mia Miceli; Amanuenses, by Constanza Feldman; Atlas de un mundo imaginado, by Silvia Gómez Giusto and Aliana Alvarez Pacheco; El trabajo, by Federico León; En Mitad De Tanto Fuego, by Alejandro Tantanian; Juego del tiempo, by Margarita Bali and Gerardo Litvak; La Gravedad de las burbujas, by Juan Pablo Galimberti; Menos detalles, by Gustavo Tarrío; and Venado asesino, among others.
The festival also serves as a platform for promoting playwriting. Within this framework, the 17th edition of the Germán Rozenmacher Prize for New Playwriting was held, organised together with the Rector Ricardo Rojas Cultural Centre of the University of Buenos Aires, with the aim of promoting theatrical writing by young authors.
The programme also offers a strong regional exchange. In Encantado, for example, Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Dança works with Afro-Indigenous imaginaries, fear and the construction of collective experience, while the music incorporates songs of the Guaraní Mbya people. The work will be performed on 13 and 14 September at the Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo.
With a programme that crosses disciplines, generations and origins, FIBA 2026 will once again position Buenos Aires as a meeting place for local and international artists and as a space for the circulation of new forms of performing arts creation.
